THIS IS WEEK #2 OF OUR LEGISLATIVE OUTREACH CAMPAIGN OPPOSING SB 581 AND SUPPORTING SB 553!!!!!

WEEK #2: SB 581 and SB 553 have both now been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee, so our focus this week is on legislators who are members of that committee, many of whom are lawyers. Below is the list of the House Judiciary Committee Members whom we urge you to email this week with your own personal message.

To be most effective, we recommend that you keep your message factual and respectful. Avoid derogatory characterizations of the bills or any legislators. Here is an example of our message this week:

"My family and I have enjoyed swimming and picnicking on the Lake Michigan shore for generations. I am very concerned that SB 581 now pending in the Indiana House would take away my rights and give them to an elite few. This would be in direct violation of the Indiana Supreme Court's recent ruling in the Gunderson case that the Lake Michigan beach is owned by the State of Indiana and held in trust for the use of the Indiana public. SB 581 would also take away local government zoning authority to protect the shore and dunes from reckless private development and beach eroding activities. This is just wrong-headed. Please VOTE NO ON SB 581, and instead VOTE YES ON SB 553 which would maintain Indiana residents’ traditional right to use and enjoy our precious Lake Michigan shore and protect it from privatization.”
