The program brings together professionals representing a cross-section of military, government, nonprofit, and business communities. The high caliber of students who have joined us this far have allowed ideas and learning to flourish inside and outside of the classroom. The fall semester will begin August 26, 2019, with priority consideration given to applications submitted by July 1. All other applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. About the Executive Master’s in International Relations (EMIR) The EMIR degree program is open to professionals with at least seven years of experience who are interested in advancing their careers. The program is designed to leverage the academic strengths of Maxwell, the nation’s #1-ranked graduate school in public affairs, and the practical policy applications of CSIS as a leading global think tank. Professionals interested in enhancing their current credentials or entering a new field, can select from a range of specializations including Global Security & Intelligence, Foreign Policy, Global Markets, Global Development, and Public Diplomacy. Participants will learn from Maxwell faculty, CSIS scholars, and guest lecturers drawn from the senior ranks of government and business communities. During their final semester, master’s candidates will work with CSIS policy experts to complete a capstone project aimed at addressing a current international policy challenge. Examples of recent capstone projects include: * Developing a Legislative Framework for U.S. Policy toward the Arctic * Environmental Health and Human Security * Sharpening Sanctions as a Tool to Counter Gray Zone Competitors * Escalation and Conflict in U.S.-China Economic Relations Students will also participate in workshops to hone professional skills needed in today’s competitive global landscape, including data visualization, public speaking, and policy briefing skills. Lastly, they will have an opportunity to work with CSIS’s award-winning production studio, the iDeas Lab, to develop a multimedia product that showcases their research findings and policy solutions in innovative new ways.
