The House Committee, comprised of members of the Club, continually addresses the questions of why and what the House Rules should be and advises the Council. This is particularly important in these changing times and with a membership as diverse as ours. As a social club, we strive to provide a haven where members can connect and relax in an atmosphere of decorum and civility. If you asked 1,000 of our members what they thought was appropriate, you’d likely get 1,000 different answers. Having a shared code of conduct and values that everyone is held to creates a positive culture ensuring that members want to remain a part of our community for years to come. House Rules are also in place to protect members of The Yale Club. The House Committee recently updated our House Rules to reflect some necessary changes including the addition of two new rules. Your Club should be your home away from home and an oasis in this busy city. That’s why our staff, along with many governance members, has been working to develop enticing programming and offerings that we hope you’ll enjoy. Traditionally, the Club has focused on weekday offerings, but why shouldn’t members enjoy the Club on weekends? After all, we have a state-of-the-art athletic facility, beautiful spaces to unwind, and the biggest and best drinks in New York City! That being said, an area of focus for us is weekend programming. Keep reading to learn more about new weekend programming at the Club. O'Brien, Originally Published in YaleNews on March 7, 2019 "The Yale Alumni Association estimates that there are more than 5,000 alumni in finance in the New York area alone and multiples of that worldwide,” said Neil Hohmann ’91, head of structured products and a portfolio manager for Brown Brothers Harriman Investment Management, and president of the Yale Club of New York City. “It’s a bit of a puzzle why no finance group exists, but maybe Professor Shiller or some of you might have a clever economic explanation.” Hohmann introduced the keynote speaker, Sterling Professor of Economics Robert J. Shiller, for the first event hosted by the new alumni association shared interest group, YaleFin, on Feb. 27. YaleFin, founded by Hohmann, Sulexan Chery, William Shikani, and Thomas Opladen, hopes to create an enduring community of Yale alumni working in finance, banking, and markets.
