Tuesday - January 5, 2010 From the School This Week's Query Can we find new friends without abandoning our old ones?Notes from Sally I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday! This week’s assembly will be presented by our 8th grade drama students, The 37th Street players. Parents are welcome to join us! To all who pick up on 37th Street in the afternoon - as you know, on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the street is very crowded. A police officer came through today and cleared everyone out with the threat of tickets. A reminder: with only a few exceptions, your children are not out and ready to be picked up right at 3:20, and coming early and sitting does not help the traffic. Please delay your arrival until about 3:30 – or later – so that we do not have the massive jam. Thank you! Has your address, phone number, email information, or emergency contact information changed? Please update your information through the Parent Portal! We want to know how to reach you. Welcome Huijin Yan, who will be teaching the Chinese classes until the end of the year. Her email is yanh@sidwell.edu, and she can be reached at extension 202-537-8432. It could end up in a landfill, where it will take time to biodegrade. So, check with your municipality to find out what they do with trees. If they don’t recycle or mulch, you have options. Take your tree to a local recycling plant, such as Unity Disposal & Recycling (301) 990-2049, Fort Totten Transfer Station (202) 727-1000, Arlington, VA Christmas Tree Dropoff (703) 228-6570 or College Hunks Hauling Junk at 1-800-JUNK-USA. Or you can chop it yourself and use it for firewood and kindling.
