Tuesday - January 19, 2010 From the School This Week's Query How can we remain a community if we have different opinions?Notes from Sally This week we will have two assemblies. On Wednesday at 1:05 we will welcome Al Bronstein, who served as a civil rights lawyer and worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in that capacity. Our regular assembly on Friday will kick off our No Name Calling Week activities and is presented by the Diversity Committee. Parents are welcome for both. Parents are invited to join us for Meeting for Worship on Thursday morning. Meeting runs from 8:10 – 8:40 in the Kenworthy Gym. Minimester booklets were distributed last week; please look them over carefully. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions of teachers about the proejcts on Friday morning. Schedules will change for certain arts classes next Monday, January 25th. 5th grade chorus will end, and 6th grade chorus will begin. Also, 8th graders will switch to their new semester-long arts class. Here’s how to view your schedule online: Log on to the portal: http://www.sidwell.edu/broadcast/action/clickthru.aspx?id=366.948.451637.55593.5730 Click on STUDENT INFORMATION Select STUDENT SCHEDULE Select January 25 on the calendar to view your entire schedule. As many of you know, we have had a long-standing partnership with two Quaker schools in York, England. We alternate years visiting each other, and this is our year to host. We are looking for families who are willing to host students during the week following our spring vacation. Our York Friends are currently planning to arrive on Monday, March 29 and to stay until some time during the following weekend. We will have activities planned for them during the day, but we are looking for families who are willing to host them in the evening and at least part of the weekend of April 3-4. The friendships that have been forged during these visits over the last seven or eight years have been wonderful to see, and students whose families host this year will have preference to return to York for Minimester of 2011. Please let me know if you are willing to have a student!Instrumental Music Notes Auditions for Beauty and the Beast Pit Band Wednesday, January 20th, 12:55 pm in Room 101.
