Dear Hunter, As California's next Attorney General, I'll work every day to implement innovative ways to keep California safer, preventing and reducing crime. While at Facebook, I worked with Attorneys General across the nation to help build a safer internet, and I've seen some of the ideas I've championed enacted into law. Notably, in December, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced that more than 3,500 registered state sex offenders have been removed from Facebook and MySpace using data collected under the state's new "e-STOP" law, a measure that I worked closely with him to craft. I'm proud of the early success we've had with "e-STOP" in New York -? and now I want to bring that same success here to California. Watch my new video by clicking the link below, where I talk about my efforts to make the internet safer -? and then urge your legislators to pass "e-STOP" right here in California! http://www.kelly2010.com/estop I am pleased to see, in part because of our good work at Facebook, as well as the success we've seen in New York, that California Assemblymember Norma Torres has introduced a bill to restrict the use of social media by registered sex offenders. This is a good first step, but now we must go further to implement "e-STOP" here in California. The success of "e-STOP" in New York demonstrates that effective, 21st century law enforcement must embrace new technology, working hand-in-hand with online social networks and other websites to enhance safety. Under "e-STOP," convicted sex offenders must now share email addresses, screen names, and other internet identifiers with the state, which the state in turn shares with social networking sites for removal. Since I first emailed about this in December, many friends like you have already contacted your legislators, urging them to support "e-STOP." But now we've got to speak out even louder to make sure we get it passed. Click below to watch my new video -? and then urge your state legislators to protect internet users from sexual predators by passing "e-STOP" without delay! http://www.kelly2010.com/estop In order to protect California citizens, it's critical that our next Attorney General understands 21st century public safety issues -- and knows how to apply new technologies and solutions to solve them. That's exactly what I'll do as California's next Attorney General ?- and we can get a head start, right now, by urging the Legislature to pass "e-STOP" today. Thanks for doing your part to make all of our communities -- online and offline -- safer. Sincerely, Chris Kelly Democratic Candidate for California Attorney General P.S. After you've watched my new video and emailed your legislators, I hope you'll help us spread the word about "e-STOP" by forwarding this message to everyone you know. Thanks!
