It’s that time of year again! Look near and far, under the bed and in the car….. because library books are due back! There will be no more book check-out after Friday, May 14th so that we can begin the enormous yearly task of getting all 13,000 titles back on the shelves before the last day of school. Over-due letters (with instructions on how to replace a lost book) will begin coming home next week. Thank you for your support of the LS Library. WEDNESDAY MORNING MATH ENDS NEXT WEEK Wednesday Morning Math will end next week with a big celebration. Come join us on Wednesday May 19th at 7:45 am in the multi-purpose room as we thank all of our wonderful parent volunteers and celebrate the incredible math the students have done all year. And past problems will be available if you want to get some to work on over the summer!TEAM TWO CELEBRATION OF JAPAN On Thursday, May 27th grades 2 and 2x will each culminate our Japan study with a celebration of Japanese culture including haiku, kamishibai, performances and demonstrations followed by refreshments and Japanese treats. This will also be our last chance to be together as a community, before moving on to third grade! Please have your child arrive between 8:00 and 8:15. The program will start promptly at 8:30 am. Note: Unfortunately, due to our limited space we can accommodate parents only. PA Announcements PA SPEAKER - SAVE THE DATE: MAY 18TH Please join us for a thought-provoking discussion with child and family psychologist Richard Weissbourd on May 18th at 7:00 pm in the Meeting House at SFS Lower School. Childcare to be provided. Richard Weissbourd is on the faculty of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and School of Education…and a father of three. He is the author of The Parents We Mean To Be: How Well-Intentioned Adults Undermine Children's Moral and Emotional Development. In his talk to the SFS Parents Association, Weissbourd will offer concrete strategies for raising moral and happy children that avoid the extremes of too much or too little involvement and will remind us how parenting itself is a tremendous opportunity for the moral growth of parents. This promises to be a terrific discussion. Please join us! If you are interested in childcare, please contact Kristen Donoghue at [email protected]. Childcare is offered for children ages four and over at a cost $15 per child. Pizza will be provided.PA RETREAT The PA Retreat is scheduled for this evening, Thursday, May 13th from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Upper School Dining Room. Details will be passed on by grade representatives and room parents as the events approach. May 25 – PK and K June 2 – 1st and 2nd grades June 3 – 4th grade June 7 – 3rd gradeGREEN TIP: CONSIDER "LOW-E" CLASS IF INSTALLING NEW WINDOWS The “E” stands for emissivity. Using a super-thin metal coating, it reflects heat out during summer or in during winter, saving energy and money on your heating and cooling bills. Low E glass can be pricey, but worth it since houses lose about 25% of their heat through windows. Best to buy the highest quality low-E you can afford and you’ll get the best bang for your buck.
