PA SPEAKER - SAVE THE DATE: MAY 18TH On Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00 pm in the Lower School Multi-Purpose Room, Harvard University’s Richard Weissbourd will talk to parents about his book, The Parents We Mean to Be. A New Yorker Magazine’s 2009 Reviewers’ Favorite, the book discusses how well-intentioned adults can inadvertently undermine children’s moral and emotional development. Weissbourd suggests concrete strategies for raising moral and happy children that avoid the extremes of too much or too little involvement. This is a terrific opportunity to hear from a nationally-renowned child psychologist and education expert right here on our own campus. Parents, faculty, and all members of the Sidwell community are welcome.RECEPTION: ENTIRE SFS COMMUNITY INVITED! May 25 – PK and K June 2 – 1st and 2nd grades June 3 – 4th grade June 7 – 3rd gradeSPRING FESTIVAL - THANK YOU! Thanks for making the Spring Festival a big success! We had a great turn out at last Saturday's Spring Festival. A big THANK YOU to everyone who was involved in the planning and who volunteered on the day of the event, especially our fearless leaders Ellen Alexander and Donna DePasquale. Special thanks also go to Suzanne Adler, Mike Borkowski, Malika Matthews, Dianne Harrison, Powell Jones, Camille Thornton, and Catherine Weiss for their time and dedication to putting together a great event. And thanks to all of our fourth grade reps, Debra Bolog, Maria Adams Davidson, Miriam Herman, Helen Kirsch, and Donna Siahpoosh, for their hard work on the bake sale and car wash. Everyone seemed to have a great time. We look forward to another great event next year. GREEN TIP: CAR WASHES USE LESS H2O! Who knew? Apparently, commercial car washes use about 45 gallons per car, but doing it at home uses between 80-140 gallons! Also, car washes drain the water into sewers where it gets treated and used again (as opposed to running off land). So, if it's not a matter of saving money, let the pros do it!
