Tuesday - May 11, 2010 From the School This Week's Query How do I keep an open mind to different opinions when I have a strong point of view?Notes from Sally This week’s assembly will feature Middle School parents Steve and Jessica Honigberg performing a recital featuring great short works for cello and piano. Do you have suggestions for assemblies for next year? We would love to hear them! Please send your ideas my way. We do book most of the programs in the summer for the following year. Please continue to follow the protocols for traffic on 37th Street. Francine, the crossing guard, is doing her best to handle the crush of traffic that goes through that area between 3:15 and 3:30 each day, so let’s do our part to help the traffic flow for these last few weeks of school. Lots of congratulations are in order this week: Mikal Nathani just returned from Florida where he competed as part of the DC team in the national MathCounts competition. Hailey Blain, Nina Campbell, Keno Katsuda, Maia Berlow, Sarah Siegel, and Rebecca Range participated in the recent walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and raised more than $5000. Ethan Kohn has worked with his outside baseball team to raise about $6000 for the Epilepsy Foundation. Ms. Carneal’s 6th grade social studies students raised over $1000 to benefit relief efforts in Haiti at their recent art and food sale. Thanks and congratulations to all of these students on their achievements! I hope to see you at the art show this evening. We also anticipate the return of toddler T-shirts for purchase.?As an added bonus, there will also be some sale items!Green Tip of the Week Consider "Low-E" glass if installing new windows. The "E" stands for emissivity. Using a super-thin metal coating, it reflects heat out during summer or in during winter, saving energy and money on your heating and cooling bills. Low E glass can be pricey, but worth it since houses lose about 25% of their heat through windows. Best to buy the highest quality low-E you can afford and you’ll get the best bang for your buck.
