Hi Hunter and Eric, I want to check in on these issues and to let you know where I think things stand: 1. 2008 Tax audit letter-I spoke to Walter yesterday to review what materials he will present and to review our rationale and reliance on IRS revenue rulings in determining that the VP was not required to pay self-employment tax. He will contact the IRS agent and present this information and report back to us. 2. 2009 returns-I asked Walter to confirm that he has all the necessary information or to let us know asap what he's missing. I also asked that he aim to send us a draft return by 4/29 and he said he should be able to meet that. Here is my anticipated schedule for proceeding: March 29 draft returns from Walter to Eric and myself; I will give to WH tax counsel (who is also reviewing POTUS returns) April 7 Tax forms are finalized; copies to Ron, Alan, Cathy, and OVP Communications for review April 12 Conference call with OVP Counsel, OVP Communications, and Walter on any outstanding questions from OVP Communications; April 13 OVP counsel works with WH New Media to ensure proper scanning and redacting of personal information April 15 Returns mailed to special POTUS/VPOTUS address. Returns made public 3. University of Delaware Deed-I will give the VP the memo on status today (attached here) that outlines the issues we think should be addressed. The University is hoping that this can be signed, sealed, and announced in May, which is ambitious. Even if this gets pushed back, I know they are hoping for progress soon, and given the nature of the issues we have, I anticipate the negotiations will take some time. We need to finalize who will take the lead on this as his personal attorney. I would like to meet the first week in April to hammer out answers on the open issues. Can you let me know your thinking on this? Thanks. Cynthia C. Hogan Counsel to the Vice President Office of the Vice President 202.456.2734 202.503.5358 chogan@ovp.eop.gov <mailto:chogan@ovp.eop.gov>
