PA Announcements PARENTS' MEETING & "STATE OF THE SCHOOL" ADDRESS Join us for a Lower School Parents Association Meeting on Thursday, April 8 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the Meeting House. Rich Lodish will deliver a “State of the School” address followed by a question and answer session. We will also consider the query “How can we make communication within our school community the best it can be? Are we as open, respectful, and inclusive as we could be?” We hope to see you there. LAST CHANCE TO CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND On Tuesday, April 6, volunteers will clean out the lost and found bin at Lower School and will donate unclaimed items to Martha’s Table. Labeled clothing will be returned to its owner if possible. Please check the bin before Tuesday, and remember to label your child’s clothing. When doing your spring cleaning, try to avoid these chemicals: ** Window & Air Cleaners: Avoid Ethylene-based glycols (known as butoxyethanol, EGBE or, most commonly, “cellosolve”). Found in: blue glass cleaners, Professional Windex, UNREAL spot remover, Formula 409, Pine-Sol and Windex Aerosol. Why: EPA recently called it “a possible human carcinogen” (link to EPA website here). Alternatives: Bon Ami & 7th Generation, Mr. Clean products. For Air Fresheners, use lemon & water. ** Citrus-oil cleaners: (Terpenes): Mixes w/ground ozone, becomes carcinogen. Found in: lemon, pine, orange oil cleaners. Alternative: Green Terpene. (www.greenterpene.com). ** Chlorine bleach (bleach or sodium hypochlorite). Why: fumes can irritate sensitive lungs (heart or respiratory problems). Never mix w/other chemicals. Join Sidwell Summer the first week of summer - fun options the week of June 14-18 include: ** Left Noodle, Right Noodle - a summertime journey to discover some of the best folktales and fairytales from around the world, grades PK-4 (LS campus) ** DC United’s Bryan Namoff and his coaches from Soccer Pros for a half or full day of soccer, grades PK+ (DC Campus) ** Basketball with SFS coaches and counselors, grades 2+ (DC Campus) ** Handwork Studios – Campers will have a blast each day participating in creative activities such as knitting, crocheting, machine sewing, and making crafts. Gender appropriate projects include backpacks, flip-flops, room decor, toys, fashion accessories, and more. Each week, campers will have new projects to choose from. Each participant will receive a “Handwork Kit” filled with our favorite supplies. Each camper will take home a sampling of our favorite tools so they can practice at home.
