With today's liturgy, we begin to focus sharply on the message of Lent for each of us. This focus revolves around the gospel message since the first and second readings at Sunday masses relate in some way to the gospel which the Church gives us. During this month of March the Lenten gospels prompt us to consider the person of Jesus: just who is this Jesus (the 3 temptations of the devil); how do we experience him (the transfiguration); do our actions reflect those of Jesus (the parable of a fig tree); how Jesus forgives us (the parable of the prodigal son); and, the boundless nature of God's mercy (the woman caught in adultery). I invite you on this Lenten journey together so that not just individually but as a community of believers and disciples of Jesus we may all the more effectively enrich our own lives but also profoundly affect the lives of others (evangelization). "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
