The liturgical color of these forty days is purple; the theme of the season is repentance. But let us not confuse purple and repentance with sadness. Ironically, Lent is a joyful season. We are called in a special way to identify with the life, the ministry and the prayer of Jesus in such a way that we are refreshed and provided with a taste of life anew. While Lent is a season of 'giving up', it is more a season of 'turning over' of opening our hearts and minds and lives as one more step in drawing closer in intimacy with the risen Lord. What we are we going to do to make this happen? "Rend your hearts, not your garments." (Joel 2:12-18)
