This Sunday all three of the readings which the Church gives us to instruct us in the Lord's ways have a common and very clear theme and message: that which is on the outside is merely reflective of that which is inside. Seems logical and obvious, doesn't it? Well, our experience says not always. Transparency and honesty mean that what is contained in our hearts is what is expressed to others in word and deed. These scriptural readings are a clarion call to attentiveness during the seasons of Lent. Let our conversion to a more transparent way of life begin anew this week as Lent itself begins. "For from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks."
