Long Beach News - March Long Beach Residents, Homeowners and Friends, Below, please find current news and updates for Long Beach. We encourage you to share this with others. Current info at [http://www.longbeachin.org]. PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER The Long Beach Police Department reminds residents to keep an eye on their neighbors while they are away. All are encouraged to keep their car doors locked when parked outside and reminded not to leave anything of value inside vehicles. SEWER UPDATE Haas Engineering has completed the Capacity Study to identify necessary upgrades for Michigan City Sanitary to be able to accept sewage from a line along Lakeshore Drive in Long Beach. The next step will be a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) which will include another public hearing. Sewers will be discussed at the March 11 Town Council meeting. REMEMBER TO REMOVE TRASH BINS/GARBAGE TOTERS FROM STREET Beginning April 2019, the Town will begin enforcing the previously existing ordinance which requires all garbage and recycling containers to be at least 10 feet from the street by sundown of the scheduled pick-up date. This includes the Monday Republic garbage, Wednesday (Hidden Shores) Michigan City garbage and the every other Tuesday Republic recycling pick-ups. The Long Beach Monday garbage pick-up appears on your water bill and is an assessment that is not optional. The re-cycling service is a La Porte County function that is funded through your real estate taxes. The Clerk’s office has the name of one individual who has indicated an interest in providing a paid service for either carrying out bins, taking them back in or both. If anyone wishes to offer their services to residents, please call Deanna Carlson or Bill DeFuniak at 219-874-6616. ICE SKATING RINK Thank you to residents Bart De La Barre and Mike Szczepaniak of the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department for putting up and maintaining the ice rink throughout the winter – from shoveling to topping it off with water – for the community to enjoy! A revised timeline is being established. Stay tuned for additional updates. The proposed improvement plan can be found here [http://longbeachin.org/sites/default/files/Final%20Grant%20Submission%20for%20Stop%2024%20Improvement%20Project.pdf].
